Charles is a graduate of Akron South High School class of 1980. After high school, he joined the US Army in July that same year. In March 1982, he became a proud father to his son. At that point, he decided to begin a career in the Army. After 12 years of active service, he decided his son needed him to be physically present and not just financially. He continued his military service in the active reserves. He would become a certified instructor and State Coordinator.
In 1994, he celebrated the birth of his daughter. He then started a career serving adults with disabilities. Charles has experiences of various parenting and life skills which he learned from family and living in diverse cultures. This includes travel all over the United States, Germany and Italy. These experiences have contributed significantly to his development as both a parent and mentor.
In 2007, Charles enrolled in the newly formed Man2Man Fatherhood Initiative Program. After attending several sessions and becoming familiar with the curriculum, he was asked to join the staff. He first participated in an administrative role, and later as a facilitator.
