The Man2Man Fatherhood Initiative in Akron, Ohio is a Williams Challenge program. Williams Challenge was founded in 1998. In 2006, Williams Challenge added Man 2 Man Fatherhood Initiative to its program offerings. The mission of Man 2 Man is to teach at-risk and absent fathers the skills that they need to mature as fathers, learn their role in the family, and to make them more nurturing, present fathers. This helps to strengthen the family, and we aim to break the cycle of poverty and incarceration.
Man2Man has provided successful training and mentoring to many fathers throughout Northeast Ohio. This has resulted in stronger families and children who grow up to become responsible adults. The FREE 6-week program targets men who have been involved in the criminal justice system, but is not limited to any specific demographic. The majority of the participants have been from lower income backgrounds complicated by past incarceration. In addition to those conditions, they are often involved in strained relationships with the mother of their child (or children) which may have resulted in child support issues and custody disputes.
One of our primary goals is to bridge the gap between the father and their child's mother to resolve issues, establish priorities, and to break the cycle of poverty. We want to see their children and families flourish. We offer support to our participants and will accompany program participants to court hearings when appropriate. Man2Man is built on giving sound guidance and providing the available resources for our participants to make informed, responsible decisions as they move forward.
In 2013, Man2Man became a founding member of the Summit County Fatherhood Initiative (SCFI). SCFI is a government-sanctioned, grant funded entity combining the resources of three prominent regional providers of fatherhood services; Man2Man, Famed Fathers, and Fathers and Sons of Northeast Ohio.
Man2Man also independently participates with other non-profits, namely, Terry Pluto's Ministry Team, Akron Public Schools iC.A.R.E., and the Summit Educational Initiative.
